0NE-DAY CHILLI FEST: Sept. 17, 2017, No.8 Bougainvillea St.,New Manila, Quezon City

There will be hot sauce tasting throughout the day. The Philippine Hot Sauce Club is expecting over 500 Sauce entries to vie for prizes in 16 categories.

A one-day Chilli Festival will be staged by the Philippine Chilli Federation headed by Ponchit Ponce Enrile on Sept. 17, 2017 at the Bougainvillea Clubhouse, No.8 Bougainvillea St. corner Balete Drive, New Manila, Quezon City. The federation consists of seven Chilli Clubs from different parts of the country. The venue is a private club owned by a business tycoon. There is an entrance fee of P100.

Each of the seven member-clubs will hold their own events on that day. The Labuyo 100 Cllug will hold their initiation rites during lunch. There will be 100 who will take the initiation rites. Fifty of them will be neophytes while the 50 are old members. Each initiatee will have to eat 100 labuyo with rice and caldereta within 15 minutes. If one does not make it, he will not be accepted as a member. The old members have to eat their 100 labuyos to renew their membership. The president of Labuyo 100 Club is Larry Cariรฑo of Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The Philippine Hot Sauce Club, according to Ponchit, is expecting over 500 Sauce entries to vie for prizes in 16 categories.There will also be an all-day hot sauce tasting session.Guests during the festival will be able to taste the best super hot chilli pods available in the country hosted by KaSili Club. On the other hand, the Chilli Wars Group will host the chilli plant competitions. Lectures and chilli pod exhibit competition will be hosted by the Chilli Growers Philippines Association.

To renew their membership in the Labuyo 100 Club, old members will have to eat 100 labuyo with food (rice and caldereta) within 15 minutes.. Aspiring members will have to eat the same to be admitted as a member.

There will be 30 booths selling all kinds of Chilli related products. Hot and fiery food as well as bveveraged will be available. And there will be pod and seed sharing throughout the day, according to Ponchit.

The 2017 Chilli Festival is the fourth that started with just a huynred guests. As it moves to the new venue, the festival will be able to accommodate more guests comfortably. Each of the member clubs has held monthly or bi-monthly events across the country and this Festival puts together these individual events under one roof.

This is a new Jalapeรฑo variety being distributed by Allied Botanical. It looks menacingly hot but actually it is very sweet.
