19TH NATIONAL MANGO CONGRESS: Nov. 27-29, 2017, Cagayan De Oro City

The 19th National Mango Congress will be held on Nov. 27-29, 2017 at the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro, it was announced by Virgie de la Fuente, president of the Philippine Mango Industry Foundation, Inc. (PMIFI). Host-coorganizer is CMB Mango Growers Organization, Inc in partnership with the Department of Agriculture RFO-10.


The Congress will tackle the challenges in the industry like the diminishing production and productivity of mango trees due to neglect, lack of pruning undernourished trees and, this year, due to high incidence of cecid flies, not to mention the environmental and market price unpredictability.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Sec. Manny Piñol has been conduction a series of regional mango stakeholders’ forum and consultation nationwide for the crafting of the “5-Year Mango Industry Road Map.”
De la Fuente said that in this Congress, we would like to come together and adopt the said road map that would ultimately lead us to attain the goal of 20 tons per hectare productivity in five years thus regaining and strengthening our world market position and complete globally, amidst seasonal challenges.
For the three-day activity, the Congress will provide the participants, among others, with recent breakthrough in mango production and productivity; on individual Quick Frezing & Storage common-service multi-commodity facility to stabilize farm prices, and on credit, financing, grants and mango production crop insurance to fund and insure production, and farm demo tour.


Event highlights on Nov. 27-28 include an agri trade fair and sxhibits at the Atrium, Limketkai Mall. On Nov. 29, there will be a farm tour showcasing the best practices in mango production. There will also be in-booth consultations with suppliers, an in-booth market matching.
