A TWO-DAY seminar on Organic Pig Production will be held at the Costales Nature Farms in Majayjay, Laguna on June 14-15, 2014. This will be Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Attendees will listen to lectures and will also have hands-on practice on such topics as preparing the beddings of the pigpen; maintenance of the same so as to be odor-free, fermenting plant juices to enhance the animals’ immune system, fermenting natural feed stocks, feed formulation, making snacks for the pigs and so on.
Keen interest in growing organic pigs is surging because organic hog raisers like Jess Domingo of Alfonso Lista in Ifugao have proven that organic pig production is much more profitable than the conventional way of raising pigs. That’s because feeds are cheaper and there is no need for expensive veterinary drugs. Asper the experience of Jess Domingo, he makes a profit of more than P5,500 per head of organic pig that he raises to 90 kilos in 5 to 6 months.
By the way Jess Domingo started to learn organic pig production by attending a seminar at the Costales Nature Farms. He is also teaching the technology to farmers in Ifugao today.
