The Congress is really a big event that will be attended by leading figures in the seed business around the world. The Asia and Pacific Seed Association counts on a membership of more than 600 seed companies in 49 countries. In the Philippines, the Philippine Seed Industry Association counts on a membership of 24 seed companies and three government institutions. Companies producing vegetable seeds and other high value crops, including rice and corn are represented in the membership.
It cannot be denied that seed companies and traders are playing a very important role in introducing innovative technologies, not only seed varieties but also crop production techniques, marketing concepts and strategies. They are active in mentoring young and not-so-young farmers on doable farming ideas.
It is the seed companies and distributors who are active in conducting demonstration activities both in the field and indoors.
The Philippine participants are headed by Dr. Mary Ann P. Sayoc, president of the Philippine Seed Industry Association. She is one of the top executives of East-West Seed Company.
