A-ONE CACAO: Something New At The Sarian Farm

A big cacao pod obtained during a cacao forum a few years back was propagated and three trees are now growing and fruiting well at the Sarian Farm in Teresa, Rizal.
An official of the Philippine Cocoa Foundation (CocoaPhil) called it A-One which sounded like Ewan. The fruit we got easily weighed 500 grams or even more. We germinated the seeds and planted three seedlings in our farm. The trees have been fruiting in the last two years and we have germinated the seeds produced. Some seedlings are now ready for planting in the ground.

When the fruits are small, they are red with linear stripes. When they ripen the pods turn reddish orange. So far, we have not seen any pest and disease problems afflicting the trees.
