April 2017 Agriculture Magazine Off The Press

The April 2017 issue of Agriculture Magazine edited by your blogger and published by Manila Bulletin is now off the press. Featured on the cover are weanlings of the Large Black Pig now being multiplied in big numbers by the governor of Nueva Vizcaya, Carlos Padilla Jr.
The Large Black Pig is an ancient breed from old England that has been overshadowed by the breeders of the white pigs. What is interesting is that the Large Black Pig is highly suitable for free-range rearing in the Philippines. The breed is large and faster growing than the black native pigs in the Philippines. In fact, it is claimed to attain as much as 300 kilos at maturity.

The Large Black Pig is said to be docile, prolific and with good mothering ability.Other features in the April issue include the enterprising small entrepreneurs at the AANI Weekend Market, the biopesticide of Dr. Rene Sumaoang that is also a fertilizer, highland crops that thrive well in Bukidnon, onion festival in Nueva Ecija, the Kubota-Saka Thanks Day, management package for addressing mango yield, and many other features.

Agriculture Magazine is the most widely circulated agriculture publication in the Philippines. It is available in bookstores and outlets of Manila Bulletin nationwide. It is also available for subscription.
