Henry Rafael, 53, of Brgy. Paulog, Ligao City in Albay is a successful sweet corn farmer. He has been planting the Macho and Sweet Grande from East-West Seed since 2007.

At first, he just planted half a hectare. But when he had mastered the technique of growing the crop, he eventually increased his area of production to 1.25 hectares.

By planting his seeds weekly, he can have marketable ears practically throughout each month. He plants two kilos of seeds per month.

On April 7, 2016, the marketing team from East-West visited Rafael and found that the Rainy Sweet F1 variety, a new hybrid from East-West, yielded very well despite the dry spell brought about by the El Niño phenomenon.
