Ponchit Ponce Enrile, the chief organizer of the 3rd Annual Chilli Festival held October 22-23 in Quezon City, is very upbeat about the result of the event. The venue, the residence of Daisy Langenegger, looked too small for the festival because there were so many chilli enthusiasts who gathered there.
Now Ponchit is going to look for a bigger venue for the 2017 Chilli Festival. And he is very excited because two big traders, one selling imported chilli products and the other strictly locally produced ones, have told him of their intent to become sponsors.
Ponchit is also very happy because sales of chilli products were brisk. There were a lot of ladies, some very young, who were very interested in the hot items. Among the best sellers were various kinds of chilli sauces, flakes, garlic-chilli concoctions, chilli massage oil. chilli longganisa, wine, seeds, seedlings and others.
We also saw Art and Angie Veneracion, the couple advocating rabbit raising for meat, at the festival. And we heard Art proposing to Ponchit that Art’s group of rabbit raisers and Ponchit’s ChilliHeads collaborate in staging a festival sometime next summer at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City. If that happens, we could expect spicy rabbit adobo, caldereta, sisig and other preparations for tasting at the joint event.
