The Kooperatibang Pangkabuhayan sa Sta. Maria (Bulacan) received a P500,000 grant from the Department of Trade and Industry so the co-op can upgrade its meat processing facilities.
The co-op, headed by Gil SP Garcia, has a contract growing scheme where by the farmers receive weanlings to fatten as well as feeds and technical assistance. The co-op buys back the fattened pigs which it processes into different products like longganisa, tocino, tapa and the like. Currently, the processing is done manually.
Once the new facilities are installed, the co-op will be able to increase its production of processed meat. Other farmers can also avail themselves of toll processing at the new facilities. New products are also being planned for development by the co-op.
