Chicharon Maker Modernizes, Thanks To DOST’s SETUP Project

A company that makes chicharon in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon has modernized its operation, thanks to the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of the Department of Science and Technology.

The company is the SLERS Industries, Inc. owned by Mercedes Fidelita P. Mejia whose operation was upgraded with the all-new equipment provided by DOST through its SETUP program. The equipment acquired include an Automatic Packaging Machine with multi-head weigher, vertical form fill seal machine, bucket type conveyor, discharge conveyor, and hot stamp ribbon coder.

The company had its initial run of the equipment during the turnover ceremony on January 31, 2019 attended by Lesli N. Uy, Science Research Specialist II of the Bukidnon Provincial Science and Technology Center.

The company can now produce larger quantities of chicharon to meet the increasing demand of buyers.

DOST is encouraging all micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs) to avail themselves of the SETUP program to improve their operations and thus boost their productivity and profitability. (DOST press release)
