We remember seeing citrus trees in Israel grown on elevated beds. When we asked why, our host explained that there is better aeration in elevated beds. The roots receive more oxygen, hence better root development. With more roots that are healthy, the plant can take up more nutrients from the soil. Better aeration is also more conducive for beneficial microorganisms to multiply that aid in better plant growth.
