The National Investment Summit for Coconut-Based Farm Enterprises will be held on February 26 at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati City.
The summit is spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Assistant on Food Security and Agricultural Modernization (OPAFSAM) headed by Sec. Francis N. Pangilinan and the Philippine Coconut Authority. The summit aims to promote community-based coconut enterprises for a sustainable coconut industry and inclusive growth.
The event aims to highlight the various community enterprise opportunities, going beyond copra production to increase income of coconut farmers. The summit will include a sharing of good practices of selected community-based coconut enterprises to heighten awareness on the importance of value-adding coconut products. It will also provide the participants an opportunity to forge partnerships with government and private sectors to start, enhance or expand their preferred community enterprises.
Among those who will share their success stories are Jerry Taray of Sweet Harvest Multipurpose Cooperative of Carmen, North Cotabato. He is considered one of the biggest exporters of coconut sugar to Europe and other countries. Another is Maximo T. Robles of KAAGAP Multipurpose Cooperative of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.
