Coleus is a popular ornamental plant which todate is classified under the genus Plectranthus and Solenostemon. Coleus is the common name used in the international plant industry and here in the Philippines, this plant is more commonly recognized as Mayana.
This genus is native to many tropical areas in Asia, Australia and Africa. These plants will grow well in moist well-drained soil of up to 2 meters high. It’s a popular household plant here in the Philippines for its brightly colored foliage, and it can easily be grown from cuttings. It is also very heat-tolerant.
I recently found some photos from a past trip in Taiwan, these were taken from a plant collector’s home and his vast collection of coleus that were planted around the planters of his rooftop. Enjoy these vibrant and bright colored coleus,.They can truly be an amazing addition to any household landscape be it planted on the ground or potted in big containers.
FOR THE BUSINESS-MINDED: You can make money by growing beautiful specimens in beautiful containers that will impress people when used to decorate part of the home during special occasions. There are well-to-do individuals who will pay a good price for beautiful specimen plants in big containers ready for use as decoration for the home or for establishments like hotels, inauguration of buildings and such other occasions.
FOR THE GARDEN SHOW: Prepare well grown plants for display in the show. Give it a high price that it deserves. Then produce a lot of established propagations in small pots for sale to plant lovers at a low price, say P30 per potted plant. Since there are so many variants, there will be lots of people making their own collections. Even if the price per small plant is low, one will make money from selling them because many people would be interested to buy.
