The 18th Dairy Congress and Expo will be held on April 28-30, 2015 at the Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas, it was announced by Juan P. Lozano, national chairman of the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines.
Grace Cenas, administrator of the National Dairy Authority, will present a situationer of the Philippine Dairy Industry. On the other hand, Dr. Alicia Lustre will speak on the Philippine Food Safety Act of 2013.
In the afternoon of April 28, a session called Dairy 101 will be conducted by UP Los Baños experts where the basics of dairying will be presented and discussed.
On the second day, April 29, technical discussions include Anti-Microbial Resistance by Dr. Marie Abenes of the BAI, Feeding for Optimum Peak and Persistency of Lactation by Dr. Daniel L. Aquino of the Philippine Carabao Center, Importance of Mineral Supplementation by Dr. Arnel N. del Barrio of PCC, and Identifying Metabolic Problems in Dairy Animals.
There will be a feed and nutrition roundtable. Why Feeds? by Jose Tapay of Jetbest Farm, Lipa City, Silage as an Alternative Source of Roughage by Jesus Mateo of 3JM Farm, Sta. Maria, Bulacan, and Genomic Revolution: The Study of DNA and Genetic Improvement by Amaia Goitia of Abenekin Genetics, Spain.
On April 30, Keith Milligan, technical coordinator of the Philippine-New Zealand Dairy Project, will talk on the PNZDP Forage Development Initiatives.
There will also be a roundtable on “Factors to Consider in the Sustainability and Profitability of Dairying”. Nestor Non of Oyibo’s Goat Dairy Farm will take up Dairy Goat; Celestino delos Santos of General Trias, Cavite will take up Dairy Carabao, and Gemma Chavez of Falcon Dairy Cooperative will take up Dairy Cattle.
There will also be a tour of showcase farms for forage development and calf rearing in Batangas.
