DR. GIL C. SAGUIGUIT JR: Reappointed SEARCA Director For Third Term, SEAMEO countries,

Dr. Gil C. Saguiguit Jr. has been reappointed to an unprecedented third term as director of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research, SEARCA for short.

SEARCA is hosted by the Philippine government and is based in Los Baños, Laguna. It is under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization or SEAMEO.

The SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC)  gave Dr. Saguiguit another three-year term on the recommendation of Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro. SEAMEC is SEAMEO’s highest policy making body composed of the Education Ministers of the 11 SEAMEO countries.

Dr. Saguiguit’s appointment had earlier been endorsed by the Governing Board (GB), SEARCA’s policy making body composed of representatives of each of the SEAMEO countries. University of the Philippines Los Baños represents the Philippines in the GB.

In recommending Dr. Saguiguit’s reappointment, Luistro cited his outstanding accomplishments and performance, including ensuring the Center’s financial stability and maintaining it as a leading center for excellence for agricultural and rural development in Southeast Asia. He was also commended for the framing of SEARCA’s Tenth Five-Year Plan which is deemed strategic to the SEAMEO region in light of its focus on food security, poverty reduction, and the new ASEAN economic integration.
