One fun place to visit is the Greening Ranch Leisure Farm in Tainan, Taiwan. One presentation that we enjoyed most was the duck racing.
Big white ducks were swimming in the big pond when we arrived. Before the event started, the lady in charge asked us to pick a number from 1 to 7. These are the numbers of the lanes on a platform that spanned about 200 meters over the water. What was the number for?
Well there are seven lanes on the platform where the ducks will go through in their race from one end to another and then back. When the signal was made, the ducks went up the platform as fast as they could and raced to the other end where they were given pelleted feeds. The amount was not much so when there was no longer any pellet left, they raced back where they started. They knew that another batch of pellets awaited them.
Well, the first to arrive was on Lane No. 6. And the lucky fellow who picked the number among the visitors was given a prize for picking the right number. Nobody in our group picked No.6. At any rate it was real fun watching the ducks race from one point to the other and then backi.
Greening Ranch is a popular agritourist destination. The ranch is a major milk producer in Southern Taiwan. About 20,000 visitors go to the place each month, many of them parents with their children in tow.
