ENTERPRISING YOUNG KOREAN: Making Millions From PH Mango
The Korean trader buys mature green mangoes that are about 200 grams each but not less.

AN ENTERPRISING Korean in his 30s is making millions from Philippine mango which he sells online in Korea. What he does is he makes the fruits into halves, removes the skin and each half is placed in plastic pouch and subjected to Instant Quick Freeze (IQT). Each half is said to be selling at the equivalent of P200 in Korea. It is a bestseller.

Our informant tells us that he sells no less than 2 million mango halves a year. The mango king from Ilocos Norte, Ricardo Tolentino, said he supplied the Korean no less than 350 tons of mature mango that are mostly 200 grams in size last year. He prefers this size because it is cheaper from the supplier. The big ones are much more expensive. He does not buy, however, fruits that weigh less than 200 grams.

Aside from quick-frozen mango halves, the Korean also makes other processed mango products.
