The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) has developed a brown rice mill and a compact corn mill that could prove useful to farmers and entrepreneurs in many parts of the country.
The brown rice mill will enable the users to produce brown rice which is recommended for its high nutrient content compared to the polished rice. It also means higher grain recovery, hence it adds to the food supply.
The compact corn mill can produce high quality corn grits for food and cracked corn for feeds with higher milling recovery. It can also simultaneously degerm, mill and sort corn grits. It has an input capacity of 300 to 500 kilos per hour and a low operating cost of P1.4 per kilo while only requiring a small working space.
