The Genki ears are filled to the tip.

SeedWorks Philippines headed by Carlos Saplala has come up with a new hybrid sweet corn that is suitable for year-round planting. It is claimed to have good tolerance to corn rust disease so that it can be planted for off-season production during the rainy months. The husk is tight so that rain will not penetrate the ears.

Genki can be harvested around 65 to 68 days from planting (DAP). The plant is of medium height.

Plant one seed per hill, 25 cm between hills in the row. And the rows are distanced 70 cm apart. You will need 7 to 8 kilos of seeds to plant one hectare.

In the absence of soil analysis, follow the general recommendation on fertilization. For every kilo of seeds planted, observe the following:

  • 1st Application: 8 days after planting (DAP), Apply 1/2 bag 16-20-0 plus 1/2 bag Urea.
  • 2nd Application:  15 DAP, 1 bag 16-20-0.
  • 3r Application, 25 DAP:
  • Option A -1 bag 17-0-17.
  • Option B – 1/2 bag Urea plus 1/2 bag 0-0-60.
  • Harvest at around 68 days from planting.
