ONE of the attractions at the recent Urban Agriculture Trade Show at the Rockwell Tent in Makati, May 1-3, 2015 was the exhibit of Macondray Plastic Products, Inc.showcasing how urban dwellers can grow veggies and herbs on just three square meters. This is with the use of grow bags that can be installed on a rack as in photo.
The grow bags are made of durable UV treated plastic materials. It is like a big tube that is filled with the growing medium. Holes are made in appropriate distances into which seeds or seedlings are planted. Lettuce, chives, leek, mustard and many other plants needed in the kitchen can be grown right around the home.
Aside from vegetable grow bags, Macondray has bigger plastic bags that are used for making silage for feeding farm animals. The grasses are chopped and then placed inside the bag with molasses added to aid in fermentation. The silage or fermented grass is palatable and nutritious. It can be used for feeding during the dry months when green grass is scarce. Of course, it can be fed any time of the year.
