It is time to take gardening at home amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the Coronavirus. This is being espoused by Sen. Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food.

She said that home gardening will provide fresh vegetables for the home and will also provide the much needed exercise for those on ย mandatory homestay. There are many vegetables that can be grown in recycled containers like pechay, okra, eggplant, tomato, camote, and more.

For those with limited space, the so-called vertical gardening can be practiced. Vegetables and culinary herbs can be grown in hanging baskets and receptacles. For the neophytes in farming, there are easy-to-follow tutorials in the Internet, according to Sen. Villar.

Villar stressed that home gardening will keep people out of the streets to stop the spread of COVID-19. It will also provide nutritious foods that they donโ€™t have to buy.
