IN VIETNAM: Some Interesting Fruits

We saw some interesting fruits in the market in Ho Chih Minh City during our recent trip to Vietnam upon the invitation of Bayer CropScience to attend the Rice Future Forum 2015.. One is a very round avocado which could weigh three pieces to a kilo. It has chrome yellow flesh with fine texture.

Another is a sweet orange with red flesh. This is much smaller than the grapefruit. Then there is the red-fleshed guava that is oblong.

We were also fascinated by the big longan fruits. These have big seeds but the flavor is excellent. It is sweet and relatively fleshy despite its big seeds. The seed should make a very good rootstock for grafting the variety that bears fruit in the Philippines. Because the seed is big, the seedling that comes out should be big and robust.
