The green-ripe mango is sliced into cubes and then instant quick frozen.

THE INSTANT Quick Freeze (IQF) technology is poised to provide a good market for mango farmers in Mindanao who have long complained about low prices of their harvests.

A multinational company is reported to start commercial IQF processing of mango for export to Europe. Green-ripe mangoes are sliced into cubes then subjected to Instant Quick Freeze. The product has been observed to be in demand in Europe as well as in the United States. It is said that much of the slices will be coated with chocolate by the importers. Members of a mango growers cooperative in Southern Mindanao will supply the company’s requirements. The members have at least 2,000 trees that are 20 to 25 years old.

The company has been subjecting to IQF banana and pineapple slices which are exported to Europe.
