INTERNATIONAL BONSAI EVENT: March 17-20, 2016, Makati City

A four-day international event will be held in Makati City on March 17 to 20 under the auspices of the Philippine Bonsai Society and the Bonsai Club International. The event is dubbed “2016 Philippines-BCI Convention and Exhibition.Official opening will be at 4 p.m. at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, Ayala Avenue corner Paseo de Roxas, Makati City. The exhibits where at least 300 masterpieces will be exhibited are open free to the public.

The lectures and demonstrations will be held at the City Garden Grand Hotel not far from the exhibits. The event will be attended by delegates from the Philippines as well as abroad. Taiwan is reported to be sending no less than 50 participants. Other delegations will come from Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, United States, Canada, France, Thailand and others.

Among the features of the convention are demonstrations by experts that include masters from Japan, Taiwan and the United States. In the workshop demonstrations, the masters will be given bonsai materials that they can fix in front of the audience. That will show how good they are in their art. The bonsai masters who will conduct the demos include Master Shinichi Nakajima of Japan, Min Hsuan Lo and Hsu Wen Jen of Taiwan, Pang Yung Liu and Hsu Tung Chang also of Taiwan, and William Valavanis of the United States.

Two experts in Suiseki, Dr. Tom Elias and Peter Huang will talk on appreciation of Asian stones.
