MAPINO CHICO: Sweet And Fine-Textured

One of the recommended chico varieties today is the Mapino, a selection made by staff of the Institute of Plant Breeding in Los Baños. It is a selection from a farm in Cavite.
The fruits are usually about 120 grams but could be bigger if fruits are limited on the tree. They have few seeds, sweet and fine-textured. The tree is also said to be a prolific bearer.
Mapino is one of the varieties being multiplied today at the Sarian Farm in Teresa, Rizal, together with Yusepeng chico, variegated chico, Ponderosa and Pineras.
