The 10th National Coffee Summit will be held on October 24, 2017, at SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City. Theme of the event is “Bridging the Gap to Quality.”
Opportunities in the coffee industry will be discussed by the resource persons. Thelonious Trimmel, chief of party of ACDI/VOCA Philippines, will talk on “Quality Coffee for the World.” On the other hand, Bobby Calingo, executive director of Peace and Equity Foundation, will discuss “Financing Coffee Farms – A New Social Approach to Coffee Investments.”
Undersecretary Alma Rita Jimenez of the Department of Tourism will tackle “Tourism Through Coffee- A New Business Opportunity.” On the other hand, DA Usec. Evelyn Laviña will present the “Philippine Coffee Roadmap.” Another speaker, Ma. Aurora Geotina-Garcia, Co-Chair of ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network, will talk on “Access to Markets for Women in Coffee.”
Technical sessions on coffee production includes “Climate Change Effects on Coffee Production and Possible Solutions with Course of Actions” by Dave D’Haeze, regional manager of Asia-Pacific Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung. On the other hand, Jennifer Rimando, manager of Ola Farms, will talk on “Coffee Terracing for Arabica in Cordillera.” Also from Cordillera, Prof. Valentino L. Macanes, director of IHFSA of Benguet State University, will talk on “Processing Winning Arabicas.”
Samuel Gurel, president of Torch Coffee Company will talk on “Improving Quality/Profits Through Processing.” Lastly, Joel Lumagbas, director of Philippine Coffee Board, will talk on “Robusta Coffee and the 5-Hectare Program.”
