ESTRELLA ‘BABY’ SACRO
An indigenous tree that produces brilliant red berries is one of several species being used to reforest vulnerable areas in Ilocos Norte like those in the towns of Solsona, Dingras and Badoc. This is the tree locally called Lubeg in Cagayan where it is found most abundantly. The berries which are sour and juicy are said to be excellent for making wine.

Photo shows Estrella ‘Baby’ Sacro, a forester and the Community Development Assistant for Environmental Concerns of Ilocos Norte, with Lubeg seedlings ready for planting in the mountains. The botanic name of Lubeg is Syzygium lineatum or Syzygium curranii.
