New Book On Bamboo Wins NAST Outstanding Book Award For 2018

The book titled “Bamboo, The Grass of Hope” won the “Outstanding Book Awards” for 2018 conferred by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST-Phl).  This was learned from Edgardo, president of the Philippine Bamboo Foundation, Inc. which commissioned the writing of the award-winning book.

The authors are Drs. Aida C. Baja-Lapis, Armando M. Palihon, Florentino O. Tesoro and Felizardo D. Virtucio. The awarding will be held at the Manila Hotel on July 12 during the Academy’s annual scientific meeting.

The contents include production of planting materials, management of bamboo stands for pole and shoot production, ornamental bamboos, ecological functions of bamboos, bamboo biomass for energy, prolonging service life of bamboo, engineered bamboo and others.

The book contains a lot of pictures and illustrations of various articles made of bamboo. The botanical names are also complete for all the bamboos grown in the Philippines which number about a hundred species.
