PACO MAGSAYSAY : Dairy Farmer

Everybody who tasted the Cherry Jubilee ice cream served during the gala dinner in honor of the 2013 Magsaysay Awardees last August 31, 2013 expressed great satisfaction over the dairy product.
Incidentally, the ice cream is the formulation of the former president’s grandson, Paco Magsaysay, and the son of former Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr.
Paco is the general manager of Real Fresh Dairy with a farm in Calauan, Laguna, where some 230 Holstein-Sahiwal crosses are being raised. On the average, the cows on the milkline give 10 to 12 liters of milk a day.

These are processed into pasteurized fresh milk, ice cream, yoghurt and white cheese.
The fresh milk collected in the past few years was processed at the Dairy Training and Research Institute at UP Los Baños. But they decided to put up their own processing plant lately for practical reasons. The DTRI facility will not process their milk on Saturdays and Sundays because government employees don’t hold office during weekends.
Paco’s ice cream carries the brand Carmen’s Best, named after her only daughter Carmen. Carmen’s Best comes in 20 flavors and Paco says that his bestseller is the Salted Caramel.
