Photo shows Joewyn Restar posing with a profusely fruiting Red Royale hybrid papaya at the techno-demo farm of the Organic Farmers Association of Aklan (OFAA) on the campus of Aklan State University (ASU) in Banga town. Restar is a member of OFAA.

Red Royale is a prolific and early-maturing hybrid that is tolerant to papaya ring spot virus (PRSV). It is being grown together with high-value vegetables and herbs  in the half-hectare demo farm of the Organic Farmers Association of Aklan (OFAA) using natural farming techniques.

OFAA is now working with ASU’s Extension and Community Services Unit, Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center VI, and the Kalibo and Malinao local government units for organic accreditation of its farm products by the Negros Island Certification Services (NICERT) and of its inputs by the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Products Standards (BAFS}, thanks to the initiative of Dr. Paterno I. Rebuelta, ASU’s organic agriculture researcher accredited by BAFS.-
