RONALD COSTALES, the developer of Costales Nature Farms, received his latest award on April 5, 2014 in Lingayen, Pangasinan as the most outstanding son of the province in the field of Organic Agriculture Development.
Pangasinan province launched the ASNA Awards in 2010 to recognize the sons and daughters of the province whose lives, works and ideals exemplify selfless dedication to service and to country. The launching was a highlight of the 430th Foundation Anniversary celebration of the province. “Asna” is an old word for “Asin” or salt after which Pangasinan was named.
Costales Nature Farms which Ronald and his wife Josephine established in 2004 was adjudged the “Most Outstanding Organic Farm in the Philippines” in 2012. Costales himself was named the “2011 Most Outstanding Organic Agriculturist in the Philippines and the “2011 Gawad Saka-Outstanding Organic Farmer”.
His five-hectare farm in Majayjay produces mostly organic salad greens for the upscale restaurants and hotels in Metro Manila. In addition, it has become a training center for organic farming technicians and entrepreneurs. It also increasingly becoming an agritourism destination for Filipinos as well as foreign visitors.
Ronald, 48, is a native of Umingan, Pangasinan. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He was vice president of the Philippine Global Communications, Inc. before retiring to venture into organic agriculture.
