SOMETHING NEW: Sweet Purple Waxy Corn And Glutinous White Nutri Lyt+
CLEOFE OSITA (above), a research assistant at the Allied Botanical Corporation in Tayug, Pangasinan, shows the improved sweet purple waxy corn that was showcased during the Field Day at the company’s experimental farm. The purple corn is claimed to contain anthocyanin which is essential for good health.

THE WC Nutri LyT+ with enhanced lysine and tryptophan contents.

Another waxy corn variety that was showcased during the Field Day is WC Nutri LyT+ which was named after the late Willy Co, the founder of Allied Botanical. The new glutinous corn was developed by the Institute of Plant Breeding at UP Los Baños.

This white  variety has enhanced  lysine and tryptophan contents which are essential amino acids for human growth. It is ideal as children’s snack. The ears are medium size, weighing an average of 250 grams. The ears for boiling are harvestable in 60 to 65 days from seeding.
