SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FORUM: SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City

Agriculture Sec. Emmanuel Piñol will keynote the event. He will report on the “Achievements and Plans Towards Self-Sufficiency and Agricultural Competitiveness.

A one-day Sustainable Agriculture Forum will be held on Sept. 27, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Fort Bonifacio Global City.. The event is under the auspices of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, together with the EU-Philippines Business Network and in partnership with Syngenta. Syngenta is a big multinational company engaged in seeds and crop protection materials.

The Forum aims to bring together all relevant agriculture stakeholders in developing and improving plans and programs for the benefit of the agricultural sector. Agriculture Sec. Emmanuel Piñol will report on: “Achievements and plans towards self-sufficiency and agricultural competitiveness.”

Session 1: “Policy Reforms Aimed to Achieve Self-Sufficiency and Preparedness for the ASEAN Integration.” Moderator will be Reyner Aaron Villaseñor, head Corporate Affairs of Syngenta.

Rep. Jose Panganiban Jr. will discuss “Legislative Agenda to Further Enhance Agricultural Productivity. Panganiban is Chair of the House Committee onAgriculture and Food.

Leoncio Evasco Jr. Cabinet Secretary and head of the National Food Authority (NFA) will discuss G2P Rice Importation Scheme Towards a More Competitive and Transparent Governance.

Engr. Ariel Cayanan, Operations and Agri-Fisheries Mechanization Undersecretary and National Director of the Philippine Rural Development Project of the DA will talk on PRDP: Public-Private Partnership Towards Inclusive Growth.

Wilfredo Roldan, executive director of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority will talk on “Modernizing the Licensing, Importation, Registration, Product Stewardship Processes to Improve the Value Chain.

SESSION 2 is abut “Empowering Farmers Through Capacity Building and Greater Technical & Financial Access. Moderator is Ms. Ruth Navales, vice president and Corporate Affairs executive of Nestle Philippines. On the other hand, Usec. Evelyn Laviña will discuss “Promoting Investments in High-Value Crops and Enhancing Farmers’ Income Through Agribusiness.”

Hybrid vegetables and other high-value crops are making many Filipino farmers rich.

“Profitability and Sustainability of a One-Hectare Farm” will be presented by Ernesto Mascenon, SVP and head of Corporate Affairs, Nestly Philippines.On the other hand, Jocelyn Alma R. Badiola, executive director of Agricultural Credit PolicyCouncil, will talk on Greater Credit Access Through the Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) Program.

SESSION 3 will tackle “Achieving Inclujsive Growth Through Innovative Technologies and Improvements in the Value Supply Chain. Moderator is Raquel Castaño, Public and Government Affairs and Market Acceptance Manager of Bayer CropScience. Emmanuel de Guzman, secretary of Climate Change Commission will talk on “Responding to Climate Change inAgriculture Through Research and Development.”

Eduardo B. Gongona, Fisheries Undersecretary, DA, will present “Secuting Sustainable Fisheries: Increasing Fish Stocks Through Project BASIL.Jose Luis Fernandez, FAO representative in teh Philippines, will discuss “National E-agriculture Strategy: The New Roadmap to Food Security or Revitalizing Agriculture Through Information and Communication Technology.” Bart Hagenbeek, Asia manager of Asia Melspring Plantcare, will present “An alternative and Sustainable Organic Solutions to Improve Yield and Reduction of Pesticides.”
