DR. GLICERIA S. PASCUA, the recently retired professor of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac City, is all praise of the Sweet Elena carabao mango that was given by Dr. Heraldo Layaoen as a grafted seedling. Dr. Pascua used to be in charge of the fruit crops nursery of the university.
Dr. Pascua says that this particular Sweet Elena tree has been a heavy bearer year after year. The fruits, however, are not as big as what is usually claimed by the original owner of the mother tree from Zambales.
MMSU Gold and Corsino are two other registered mango varieties that MMSU is multiplying in its nursery.
Grafted seedlings of Sweet Elena are available at the Sarian Farm in Teresa, Rizal at P150 each, 3 ft tall or through SARIAN FARM.
