In 1965, when we were editing Farms & Gardens Magazine of the Manila Chronicle, Gen. Hans Menzi who owned the Manila Daily Bulletin accommodated our request to interview him regarding his many agricultural projects in Basilan, Bukidnon and in Mati, Davao Oriental.

We stayed overnight at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City and after breakfast, we took a taxicab to the airport where the general had his light plane to take us to Mati. Midway to the airport, the taxicab suddenly conked out. And I took a picture of the general pushing the taxicab in an attempt to let it start, but to no avail.

Feeling exasperated, he then flagged a passing jeepney to take us to the airport. While we were boarding the jeepney, the taxi driver came running to ask for his payment. The general just brushed him aside and even berated him. He never gave him a cent.

When we arrived at the airport, Gen. Menzi gave the jeepney driver a very big tip to the great surprise of the driver and to myself
