Make sure you will get a copy of the April 2020 issue of Agriculture Magazine published by the Manila Bulletin because it is full of useful information and inspiring stories that could help you in your farm projects. The cover features Zeny Arenas from Los Angeles, California, posing with latexless jackfruit during her visit to the Sarian Farm in Teresa, Rizal.

In the face of the Kurikong problem that is wreaking havoc on the mango industry, jackfruit is one alternative crop to plant instead of mango. There are good varieties of jackfruit to plant like the Eviarc Sweet from Leyte, the latexless jackfruit from Malaysia and now the RedOrange cultivar from the Sarian Farm in Teresa.

You will also read the detailed story of the Yamang Bukid Farm in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, which attracts as many as 10,000 visitors every week. The farm employs 286 former illegal loggers who have become proud and confident farmers after being trained on the fine points of farming. They have since abandoned their illegal cutting of trees to make into charcoal and have become protectors of the forests.

There is also a feature on how to make millions if you can put up a farm school that is accredited by Tesda and the Agricultural Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture. Of course you have to have a strong faculty of trainors on various short courses on practical agriculture.

Agriculture Magazine is the most widely circulated publication of its kind in the Philippines and is distributed through subscription or by buying copies from the National Book Store and other outlets, including the dealers of Manila Bulletin nationwide.
