ERNESTO ABALOS, a rancher with other agribusiness projects, will launch his newly developed White Paraoakan chicken at the Horticulture 2014, the big garden show that will be held at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on January 24 to February 3, 2014.

The White Paraoakan has all-white feathers in contrast to the usually black or reddish Paraoakan from Palawan island. The White Paraoakan possesses the usual traits of the ordinary Paraoakan – long legs, long neck, big head and bigger body than most other strains of native chicken.

Abalos developed the new strain through continuous selection after three pure white males and two females came out from a batch of chicks. He isolated the white Paraoakan and closely observed them in their own confined growing area.

It did not take long for the white birds to multiply. Compared to the black Paraoakan which Abalos also raises in big numbers, the White Paraoakan is more easily domesticated. It is less flighty than the black Paraoakan.

There will be a limited number for sale at the Horticulture 2014 but orders can be made for day-old chicks for delivery in May or June. Abalos’ contact number is 0917-536-5503.
