Will The World Record On Rice Yield Per Hectare Be Broken Next Thursday (April 20, 2017)?

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, your blogger has been invited to witness the harvesting of the 1.5 hectare rice crop of Dennis Miguel in Santiago, Isabela.The crop was cultured under the System of Rice Intensification and Miguel is expecting to harvest between 350 and 450 cavans per hectare. And that could surpass the current global rice yield record.

Well, we are definitely going there and we will report to you our loyal pageviewers about the result. Miguel had earlier stated that their plants had an average of 40 tillers per hill. Anyway, we will see and you will certainly get our report whether Miguel succeeds or not.

By the way, the world rice record was achieved by Sumant Kumar from India totaling 22.4 metric tons fresh weight or 448 cavans in November 2011. The dried weight totaled 20.16 mt or 403.2 cavans. This was computed via crop cut from 50 sqm on the actual System of Rice Intensification (SRI) plot.
