Wood Vinegar or Mokusaku is now available at the Sarian Farm in Teresa, Rizal. This is a product that can be used as plant growth enhancer, insect repellant and composting activator. It is very useful to both organic and conventional farmers. It can be sprayed in pigpens and chicken houses to remove or prevent foul odor.
One successful organic farmer who makes and uses his own Wood Vinegar is Jeff Laruan of the Lily of the Valley Organic Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet. He uses Mokusaku instead of chemical pesticides to protect his strawberry, leafy vegetables and other plants from insect damage. He also uses it as an activator to hasten the decomposition of materials he makes into organic fertilizer. Materials treated with Mokusaku become compost in just 15 days.
Wood Vinegar is a technology developed by the Japanese which they have been disseminating to other countries, including the Philippines. Several years back, the Japanese government sent experts to the Cordillera to teach the farmers how to make and use their own Wood Vinegar.
Wood Vinegar can be applied to practically to all crops to enhance their growth and productivity. Edna Sanchez who also uses Mokusaku for spraying her plants recommends using one liter per 16-liter knapsack sprayer.
